Parenting is a full time job. Unfortunately our children don't come with a manual. It's hard to figure out if you are doing it right. Gone are the days of the "perfect" families that have a mother, father, 2.5 children, a dog, a cat, and a house with a white picket fence. New situations come up all of the time with extended families, shared custody,  and diverse living environments or cultures as well as differing opinions on how to raise a child. The world has made progress in many areas for children. Thankfully, we are past the "children should be seen and not heard" days but some believe that respect and reverence for life is not observed much by parents or their children of today. How can we raise our children with compassion and yet have enough self-discipline to accomplish their goals? Is it possible to teach them kindness and to stand up for themselves as well? Although plenty of experts have opinions on parenting, there is truly no one right way to raise a child. However, there seem to be some logical common factors that work for many families.

In the coming months we will posting stories as well as parenting tips for raising a compassionate child in the world today. If you wish to contribute please contact us: submissions@compassionchanges.com and enter "parenting contribution" in the subject line.
